Chapter 5: Dali Village and the Great Escape



First things first the company heads to the inn to rest up where they are greeted very oddly by the innkeeper. For some reason, he seems strangely fascinated by Vivi although Zidane thinks he is staring at Dagger. They are given a room apparently free of charge and Dagger questions the lack of private rooms. Inside the room Zidane and Steiner have another spat and Vivi goes to sleep out of boredom. Zidane wakes to the sound of pretty music (which I included a clip of at the beginning of the chapter). We are now in control of Zidane again but let’s first view an ATE (Dagger Tries).  Check under the plant to the left for a Potion and the chest to the right for an antidote. Leave the room for another ATE (Vivi Confused). Talk to the moogle, Gumo, after and remember to give him that letter from Mois and save your game (since you just rested at the inn, don’t use a tent).  Leave the inn for the next ATE (Cat’s Eye). Go across the street to the equipment shop.

Now, I am going to introduce you to Step 1 of the Cotton Robe Trick. Buy WRISTS! But first purchase a couple extra mage mashers, 3 feather hats, bronze equipment, and one more leather wrist. Then spend the rest on those wrists.
Leave the shop after making your purchases and go into the building with the windmill. Now view ATE (Dagger Tries Harder). Go around back of the windmill and find Aries, your first Stellazio coin. This is another game-long side quest. You will not complete it until beginning of disc 4. Leave the mill and talk to Vivi right outside. Vivi hears a KWEH and Zidane explains that’s the sound a Chocobo makes. After instructing Vivi to meet him back at the inn in a few minutes, Zidane departs. Not 10 seconds later, Vivi is abducted. View now Cat’s Eye 2.

You will find Dagger in the equipment shop if you remember the last ATE. After some banter, Zidane also tells her to go back to the inn. You should go back to the inn now. After talking with Dagger, Dagger expresses concern for Vivi who has not yet returned. Go outside the inn to find that Vivi is not by the windmill anymore. Go to where Vivi had been standing and talk to the pipe to discover Vivi is below you. Now, how do we get underground? Go back into the mill and find a secret hatch where once a boy stood guard. Flip it open and go down. At the bottom of the lift is a chest, open it to get 156 gil. Move down the only path there is to start the next sequence. Afterwards, go into the little stable to find a treasure chest with a Potion. By the fence at the bottom of the screen is another with an Eye Drop. Move onwards to the next room. You might see a pink ball sticking up out of a barrel. Talk to the barrel to reveal a moogle, Kumop. Get Kumop’s letter for Mogki and save. When you’re almost out the next door you will be able to kick a crank to release the next chest for another potion. On the bottom tier of the next room is a leather wrist. On the boxes is an iron helm.

In the next room, we will find Vivi stashed in box. After regaining control, note the door with mist coming out of it. Beside it is a chest containing 95 gil. Now, open the door and prepare to fight. After fighting a batch of ghosts go inside to find three more treasure chests. One of which is hidden in the right most corner behind the machine. You should get a Phoenix Down, a Potion and a Phoenix Pinion in that order. Leave the room. If you still have any abilities to teach to Dagger, do it now because you won’t get another chance until disc 2 at which point you’ll want to start her on the next batch of equipment and abilities.

If you’ve done all the grinding you want to do and wish to proceed, take the path running parallel to the conveyor belt. Continue until the game takes over and we are under control of Steiner. You will find a Hi-Potion among some carts. in front of the screen at the base of the Observatory. We already got the gil here last chapter. Go into Morrid's House and wait for him. When he arrives Steiner will make a pitiful show of interrogating him until Morrid tells him that the Cargo Ship should already have arrived. Steiner goes out and discovers it's true. He sees something coming out of the ground and runs over to the ship. In front of the ship is a large barrel. You have two choices, both of which advance the plot but one of them is a little funnier. After some dialogue we are confronted by another boss, Black Waltz No 2.

















After the battle you will have the opportunity to rest at the inn, reequip everyone to your liking, save at Gumo the Moogle. When you are ready go back to the edge of the farm and choose to get on the ship.



When you have control again go into the Cargo Ship. You will see a treasure chest right at the bottom of the screen. Except, it’s not a real treasure chest. It’s just for show. Go up the ladder at the end of the screen to find yourself at the deck of the Cargo Ship. Watch Steiner beat himself up. Take Zidane’s into the Captain’s Cabin and the game will move on it’s own.


Black Waltz No 3 appears and threatens Vivi. The other Black Mages come to his defense and are destroyed by Black Waltz No 3 in this chilling, heartmoving FMV.



Afterwards, we run out there to face him in a 3-on-1 boss fight leaving Dagger to drive the airship. This is gonna be fun.

After the battle is over, the game will run on autopilot culminating in this epic FMV.
